Early Years Education at Oakwood
EYFS Intent
“Children learn as they play. Most importantly in play children learn how to learn” O. Fred Donaldson
At Oakwood Primary School we offer a curriculum which is engaging and rich in curiosity and wonder. It adapts and grows to support the children’s interests and needs.
We provide a stimulating environment that has exciting opportunities that will promote challenge, exploration, resilience and a real love of learning.
During their time in the Early Years the children will develop physically, verbally, cognitively and emotionally. They will be encouraged to value all cultures, communities and people. We aim for our children to be confident and independent, to believe in themselves and interact positively and empathetically with others.
Play is an integral part of learning and this is at the heart of our early years practice. There is a balance of adult directed learning as well as uninterrupted child-initiated play which ensures the best outcomes for pupils. We recognise the crucial role that early year’s education has to play in providing firm foundations upon which the rest of a child’s education is successfully based.
Developing positive relationships between staff and children as well as parents are important. This helps when establishing and supporting consistent routines and expectations for children to achieve excellence and their full potential through their school journey.
